In general, there are two types of content that can be published on your website: topical content that is based on current events and will lose relevance over time, and evergreen content that will continue to be relevant in the future.

While topical content is useful for attracting website visitors in the short term, evergreen content will continue to attract new visitors for years to come. For this reason, evergreen content saves time and resources while increasing traffic, leads, and social media reach. Here is a look at the top 10 types of evergreen content to strengthen your website and build your brand’s credibility.

Instructions

According to Internet Live Stats, Google processes more than 3.5 billion searches each day, many of which are aimed at accomplishing a specific task. With such a diverse range of people looking for different solutions to their problems, instructional content is a great asset for your website. “How-to” and “best practice” guides that address the problems of your target audience will continue to be relevant in the future.

Taking it further, a series of tutorials will satisfy beginners as well as more advanced readers. Because the content is episodic, it has the added advantage of bringing your audience back to your brand, increasing your credibility over time.

Beginner’s Guides

Content covering the basics is even more timeless, regardless of the industry you’re in. Plus, beginner’s guides have the benefit of attracting a larger number of visitors from search engines. Unlike more detailed topics, general topics can get a constant flow of readers to your site.

Interviews

Interviews are not only a great form of evergreen content, they’re easy to repurpose into something else. For example, an interview with an industry expert can be converted into a white paper, ebook, or a series of social media posts.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Answers to questions regarding your company, products, and services rarely change, which make FAQs ideal for evergreen website content. Be as straightforward as possible, avoiding industry jargon, so you don’t alienate readers.

Historical Articles

Regardless of your industry, giving consumers historical details about your company will help to humanize your business. When creating content about the history of your industry or company, avoid using time-related adverbs, such as “last month” or “recently.” It will quickly date your content. Instead, use actual dates. The content can always be updated when necessary.

Lists

Numbered lists on topics that aren’t time-sensitive are easy to read and highly shareable. They can be educational, entertaining, or inspirational, and because they’re flexible, they can be a valuable addition to your website’s evergreen content.

Checklists

Unlike lists, checklists deal with a process rather than just a collection of random points. Checklists can be a valuable resource for your target audience and potential customers looking for solutions.

Definitions and Glossaries

Giving people a down-to-earth guide to industry terms and their meanings shows you’re there to help and you don’t take your audience for granted. Putting it on your website helps remove people’s doubts and fears, makes your company seem more approachable, and gives people something they can return to again and again.

Pros and Cons

What do your readers care about? Think about what questions your ideal customer has, and address these questions in a pros and cons article. You can focus on whichever topic seems appropriate to your audience. However, be careful not to be too biased; a more honest approach will help your credibility.

Testimonials

Testimonials are a great way to boost your reputation, and they’re also one of the most powerful forms of evergreen content for your website. Positive recommendations about your company, products, or services can remain on your website for years, as long as your main business operations remain the same.

Topical content is useful for any website, but evergreen content is essential to show people you’re an expert in your field, whatever industry you’re in. When you publish high-quality evergreen content, consumers will continue to find your website for years to come, and you’ll steadily build your brand’s reputation without having to post new content every day. So if you’re wondering what to publish to your website, consider something evergreen. It’s valuable to consumers and even more valuable to your business.
The post Top 10 Types of Evergreen Content to Strengthen Your Website first appeared on Hotel Marketing Agency, Hotels & Resort Hospitality Marketing.

Getting noticed online, whether as a blogger or promoting a product, is difficult. Many business owners focus their time on creating quality blog posts, exceptional videos, or premium products, only to see them go largely unnoticed compared to their competitors. The issue is often not with the quality of the output, though, but more about standing out from the crowd.

While there are many promotional opportunities available, blogger outreach is one of the quickest ways to make an impact, with your brand being associated with an established influencer. Blogger outreach involves finding influential bloggers in your niche, building a relationship, and getting them to promote you in one of a number of ways. Of course, you will need to offer some value to any influencer, but that is part of the blogger outreach process.

How Do You Get Attention?

Directly emailing a site owner with a request is an option, but it will probably be more effective if you can build some initial trust. Sharing content or contributing to a conversation can produce positive results, with more influencers monitoring these factors than might be expected. Comment underneath blog posts and share posts on social media, but try to add something valuable that stands out from the generic comments. If you notice any site errors, message the owner to let them know, though avoid focusing on anything too trivial. Finally, a direct compliment can be enough to break the ice, so look for an opportunity to praise something of great value.

What Can You Gain?

Getting the attention of a blogger is an important step, but you must have a goal in mind. A product owner, for example, might be looking for a review, whereas a blogger might be looking for a guest posting opportunity. In many cases, you might just want a backlink for SEO purposes, but there are more specific examples, such as an interview for a video or podcast, a testimonial, or a social media share. Have a clear idea of what you are looking for, but also consider you might be able to build a mutually beneficial relationship that offers multiple promotional angles.

What Are the Next Steps?

In most cases, blogger outreach shouldn’t be treated as a single transaction. There is an initial effort required to start a relationship, so it is wise to try and continue this work. There are only a limited number of influencers in each niche, making it important to cultivate strong ties. Look to continue the process you began, including contributing to blog comments, sharing content on social media, and adding to the industry conversation. You should certainly benefit from further promotion, but you may also find a joint venture partner that adds a whole new layer to your business.

Blogger outreach is a simple process, but you need to be able to offer something of quality to the influencer. In many cases, this process is a quick way to gain recognition in your niche, allowing you to avoid months of traditional promotion and advertising. To make outreach work, though, you cannot be offering the same as the countless other writers and product owners looking for promotion. Over time, the connections you make with this strategy will help you gain a firm foothold among the established names in your niche.
The post Grow Your Traffic and Brand with Smart Blogger Outreach first appeared on Hotel Marketing Agency, Hotels & Resort Hospitality Marketing.

Big Data is expected to be a $50 billion business by 2017. It is responsible for driving businesses towards faster, larger growth by serving customers in new and better ways. This is especially true for the hotel industry.

About Big Data

Big Data is a term that many people throw around, but it’s implication for marketing is great. It’s a massive amount of structured and unstructured data. This data can sometimes be difficult to process, so people often use software to make sense of it.

The large volume of data often leads people to understand their consumers better. This can help them make decisions on how to reach them through marketing strategies.

How Big Data Is Used in Hotels

Big Data is used by hotel owners in many ways. The ways they use it to serve their customers is the most intriguing. It’s what is going to change the face of customer service for hotel guests. Knowing how Big Data is changing the way the hotel industry sees customers will help you realize how important it is that you start to use it.

Customers Want Great Experiences

Hotel guest experience matters when it comes to repeat visits. To know what the hotel stay was like, real-time feedback tracking is needed. It’s the feedback gathered that goes into the big data that will be analyzed. Since this feedback captures hotel guests’ thoughts as they happen, service changes can be made as soon as possible. This improves satisfaction, which can lead to return stays and recommendations to friends, family, and colleagues.

Experiences Predict Future Visits

With big data, hotel owners can use predictive analytics to know what to expect next year, two years, and three years later. When you know what the trends are, you know what is coming and can change them if possible.

Customers Expect Above Average Service

It’s the services guests appreciate while at a hotel and being able to see data concerning that is valuable. Data driven service oriented analytics will help you determine what services need to be changed to affect the revenue potential of the hotel.

Satisfied Customers from Decisions Based on Big Data Leads to Increased Revenue

When guests are satisfied with their stay, there is usually an increase in revenue. By analyzing satisfaction impact on revenue, you are able to pinpoint what satisfies guests and what doesn’t. That will lead to action on the hotel’s part to improve satisfaction, which can lead to improved revenue.

Customers Are a Source of Recommendations and Reputation Building

Seventy-three percent of adults in September 2013 use social networking sites. Online reputation management is crucial to the success of your hotel. Providing on-site survey options to guests will refresh their minds about the hotel stay and encourage them to share their experiences with others online. These recommendations can lead to many other people staying at your hotel.

Big Data tells you a lot about your guests. Don’t allow that information to slip through your fingers. Take it and use it to improve your hotel guests’ experiences and revenue for many years.
The post 5 Ways Big-Data Changes How You See Customers in the Hotel Industry first appeared on Hotel Marketing Agency, Hotels & Resort Hospitality Marketing.

Trust the internet gods on this: the social networking sites will continue to evolve and attract more users. The question is, which one will stay on top when the next millions of users sign up?

Facebook, which has been around since 2004, had 160.8 million unique visitors in June. LinkedIn had 33.9 million unique visitors in the same month, while MySpace had less than 33.5 unique visits. Coming in fourth is Twitter, with 30.6 million unique visits. Interestingly, Twitter’s VP for business and corporate development, Kevin Thau, had previously stressed that Twitter is not a social network but a channel for news content and information. However, the average internet user sees Twitter as just another Facebook competition; to others, it is Facebook 2.0.

A social networking site or a social network is a multipurpose virtual platform created to encourage people to communicate and share with each other endless stream of information and various forms of entertainment, such as amusing or meaningless shout outs, homemade videos, personal photos, and anything viral in the internet. These top-ranked social networking sites may differ in terms of focus and thrust, but they offer essentially the same things to their users.

As the social network competition heats up, internet users can only enjoy a better and more active social interaction online. It is easy to imagine the internet gods being busy doing either one or both of these two things: overseeing operations in their own social networking site and /or picking up improvement ideas from competing networks. Facebook, the most popular social network, has over 750 million active users as of July 2011. That is not even ten percent of the world population today. Considering the internet itself has yet to gain popularity in some remote areas around the world and the next year could produce a fresh batch of internet users and social network junkies, the brains and genius of social networks are on their toes. How do you keep your members and how do you get millions more?

For the average user, a social networking site should be effective in three fundamentals: easy navigation, zero down time, and a reliable search system. If the social network is easy to navigate for a technophobe grandparent, then that’s brilliant! If its Instant Messaging system doesn’t lag or die in the middle of a chat and if photos can be uploaded without hassle, then that’s fantastic. If it can yield the right person in search results when the only information submitted is the name of a university, then users will definitely keep coming back. Facebook is a top favorite for these very reasons.

Users who join social networks do so for three things: easy access to loved ones and long lost friends, unlimited media sharing and a dependable shout out channel for promotion of any kind – personal or professional. Facebook and Twitter fit the bill just right, MySpace seems to be a favorite of indie and upcoming artists, while LinkedIn is perceived as the social network to join for job hunting and business promotion purposes. It seems there is something for everyone. Anything new is an improvement or a niche version of the existing social networks.

One logs on to Facebook, and voila – the latest shout outs, photos and even national news are displayed. You want to see a steady stream of concise information, go to Twitter. You want to enjoy a “personal website” look and feel to your music page, you log on to MySpace. For self-promotion and industry exposure, LinkedIn is a great network. It is way too early to describe Google+ but if only for its simple process for classifying everyone in the network, it deserves a long good look until it’s out of its beta stage.

The best shout out right now is your social network wishlist. The internet gods are listening.
The post Social Networks Evolve as Users Expected to Increase first appeared on Hotel Marketing Agency, Hotels & Resort Hospitality Marketing.

An excellent strategy for communicating and sharing ideas with other people is to offer a newsletter on a regular basis. In particular, newsletters are excellent tools that allow a company to keep its name out in the forefront. This style of drip marketing is inexpensive and easy to maintain.

The most effective newsletter is one that engages the interest of your targeted audience. In order to create an effective newsletter, or one that people want to read, follow a few rules regarding its content and design. Your newsletter should be interesting and attractive.

Select a Target Audience

The content in your newsletter needs to engage the interest of your readers in order to be effective. Therefore, once you select a target audience, you should cater to their needs and interests, styling your articles to offer information pertinent to your readers. The content needs to appeal to your audience in order to get them to want to read it.

Limit the Scope of Your Newsletter

Limiting the topics that are included in your newsletter keeps your content focused on the needs of your readers, while also providing a template for future issues. Sticking to a pre-determined format allows your writing staff to coordinate the newsletter’s content successfully and on time.

Offer Information Your Readers Can Use

If your newsletter provides useful information, your intended audience is more likely to read it. On the other hand, few people are going to actually read the newsletter if none of its content is of any value to them. Examples of useful information that you can provide in your newsletter include: useful tips, a list of informative websites, how-to articles, updated information on products or services, anecdotal content containing a useful tip, special sales and promotions, and a list of upcoming seminars, meetings, or events.

If you are selling a product or service, your newsletter should offer information that reinforces the credibility of your company. You can provide recent statistics or success stories that strengthen your company’s image in order to encourage your readers to utilize your services or remain employees within your company.

Engage Your Readers

If your newsletter’s content is entertaining and short, you can maintain the interest of your readers. One useful idea that helps to keep your newsletter interesting is to vary the length of your featured content.

Anecdotal stories can break up the monotony of a newsletter that contains material of a dry nature. Their inclusion offers easy reading and provides a momentary break in dry, factual content.

A spotlight feature that offers an insider’s look at a product, service, or employee provides easy reading that engages the interest of people. In particular, people enjoy reading about other people, so be sure to include success stories, customer profiles, and/or a question-and-answer section in the newsletter.

You can also offer a section in the newsletter that comments upon recent successes and upcoming changes within the company. This type of section encourages readers to return to the newsletter with each new edition.

Select an Attractive Design Style

The appearance of your newsletter can add to its popularity with your readers if it is attractive and interesting. A simple design is often the best way to go for a newsletter, since the content is the most important facet of it. Try and select a design that is easy on the eyes and attractive in style.
The post How to Write Newsletters That People Want to Read first appeared on Hotel Marketing Agency, Hotels & Resort Hospitality Marketing.

They landed on your page, they took a look at what you had to offer, but for some reason they were not ready to commit. It happens. In fact, on average, prospects consider a major purchase at least seven times before they follow through and buy the product or service.

However, the problem on the Internet is these prospects may not find your website when they are ready seal the deal. You have to find a way to keep your solution in front of them until they are ready to purchase.

Email marketing lets you engage with your prospects until they are ready to convert to paying customers. With a soft sell autoresponder series, you can keep your brand and solution in front of these browsers until they have all the information they need.

Seduce Them With a Giveaway

First, you have to get a prospect’s email address, often accomplished by offering a giveaway she cannot resist. This can be an e-book, white paper, webinar or video. You could even offer a widget or other download.

This works best if the freebie is related to the product you are offering. If you are selling a series of lessons you might offer the first lesson for free. In fact, many coaching programs start with a free goal setting lesson that then smooths the way for a complete system designed to help prospects achieve the goals they have identified.

Share Pertinent Information

If you want prospects to open and read your emails, you need to strike a balance between your soft sell and content that has value for the reader. Of course, the best email marketing series will successfully offer both – valuable content that also sells your solution.

Just keep in mind, especially while you establish the relationship with the first two or three emails, that you want to give more than the prospect senses you are trying to take.

Answer Questions and Overcome Objections

The soft sell aspect of your email autoresponder series should overcome any objections in the prospect’s mind by offering testimonials and case studies. Over the course of several emails you should answer any questions prospects may have and show how your product or service solves their problems.

Move Them to a New Bucket

One last thing to consider, once the prospect has made the purchase, you should move him to the next bucket in your sales funnel. Most email autoresponder systems allow you to segment your lists, so you do not waste energy (or goodwill) trying to sell prospects on something they have already purchased.

Even if you do not yet have a next step to promote, moving prospects to your “already sold” bucket helps you better target your future emails to that group.

You can’t please all the people all the time, and you won’t sell every prospect the first time they visit your site. Email marketing gives you a second, third, maybe even fortieth chance to close the deal and convert those prospects into gold.
The post Email Marketing: Converting Prospects into Gold first appeared on Hotel Marketing Agency, Hotels & Resort Hospitality Marketing.

Securing the right type of backlinks is extremely important if you want to get good rankings on Google and other search engines. Here are four tips to help you get started.

Make Your Website Linkworthy

Create a website with interesting content to generate links. You will find it difficult to get links from other webmasters if your site is a disorganized mess. The more appealing you make your site, the more likely that others will link to you.

Find Related Sites

Get in contact with related websites or blogs that have similar content to your own site. You can then direct them to interesting articles on your site that they might like to link to.

List Your Site in Web Directories

List your website in internet directories such as DMOZ and Yahoo. This will ensure that your website is categorized correctly, which will result in search engines ranking your site higher for keywords that are related to that category.

Vary the Backlinking Text

The incoming links from other websites should use the keywords that you want to get high rankings for in the linking text. It is also good if the content of the linking text varies. If multiple pages link back with the same text, it will look artificial.

Therefore, in order to get useful inbound links and improve the ranking of your site, you need to create interesting, user-friendly and linkworthy web pages. You will soon see your website rankings improve if you follow these basic principles.
The post 4 Great Tips for Securing Natural Backlinks first appeared on Hotel Marketing Agency, Hotels & Resort Hospitality Marketing.

Article directories are websites that encourage writers to submit researched, well written articles on a variety of topics. These directories are a good source of information for those surfing the internet. These directories can also help you gain exposure for your site or service, and some well-known article directories are, Yahoo Contributor Network, Bukisa, and Ezinearticles.

When looking to improve your website’s page rank or to drive additional traffic to your site, article directories can be a valuable resource. Most article directories are free to use, and some even compensate the authors for the content they submit; however, those offering compensation may not allow links in the content. It is important to be able to insert links to your web page, or web site, when submitting articles for SEO or traffic purposes.

A link in the body of the article or in the authors’ biography section could steer visitors and search engines towards your site, and that equals more traffic. Not all article directory submissions will increase back links, since an article directory has to have ‘do-follow’ links enabled to count as a back link. Some sites use ‘no-follow’ links to discourage users from abusing the sites to gain higher page ranks.

The main difference between a ‘no-follow’ and a ‘do-follow’ link is that a ‘no-follow’ link still leads back to the site, but it cannot be followed by search engines. If a search engine cannot follow a link, it cannot validate it. This means that a ‘no-follow’ link cannot be counted as a valid back link for a site. ‘Do-follow’ links allow both users and search engines to reach your site, and so can increase your online exposure, your traffic levels, and your back links.

Page ranks should be considered as well when using article directories. Search engines evaluate the quality of a site’s back links in order to calculate its page rank. Some article directories have higher page ranks, and when building back links these are the directories you should focus on first. It is possible to submit to hundreds of low page rank directories, but you will be better off to submit to fewer, high ranking directories.

Most article directories will accept articles on a variety of topics, but the requirements or submission guidelines will differ from one to the next. Some of the most common guidelines are to steer clear of illegal topics, or anything that could be considered hate speech. Some directories will also penalize content that they consider to be overly promotional.

When submitting content to different article directories you’ll find that the requirements and rules vary greatly. One site may require a minimum word count of 250 words, while another requires at least 500. There are also different rules regarding the amount of links allowed, and which areas of the article can be linked to. It is important to always check the guidelines before submitting to any article directory, as this will help prevent possible rejections. Repeated offenses may lead to a banning of the account in question, so sticking to the guidelines will work in your favour in the long run. Persistence is important when using article directories to build back links or to drive traffic to a web site. Some submissions may take up to three weeks to be approved, but if your efforts are consistent it should lead to an increase in traffic, and back links, over time.
The post Article Directories: Boost Your SEO Efforts and Increase Traffic. first appeared on Hotel Marketing Agency, Hotels & Resort Hospitality Marketing.

Blogging is not nearly as complicated as it sounds! Using a WordPress blog is an effective, easy way to help market your business online. This article also covers essential widgets and tips for your blog to be more productive.

Not only is the world of blogging expanding our vocabulary, but it is also expanding our businesses. Online marketing has greatly increased and blogging has become one of the top and most effective ways to market your business online. The common misconception is that you have to be web savvy to run and promote your own blog. Fortunately, it’s not as scary or hard as it sounds.

The most impressive, and effective types of blogs are powered by WordPress. WordPress blogs are very easy to set up, maintain, and allow a very interactive application for clients to gather information about your company, history and products. The benefits of blogging can be tremendous, with even just a minimal amount of effort.

Ready? Let’s blog!

A. Choose a domain name and cheap hosting through Godaddy.com (very easy to set up).

B. Choose a free WordPress theme (Google “free WordPress themes”).

C. Google hosting will automatically install a WordPress database by clicking on the Fantastico tab in your hosting settings.

D. Install your free theme and choose your widgets (easily add twitter updates to your blog).

E. Start blogging!

It truly is that easy.

Now, there are some steps that most people don’t know about that make all the difference. You can easily add certain widgets to see what type of traffic you are attracting and that enable you to add keywords to every blog post for higher rankings in Google.

Crucial widgets.

A. Google Analytics widget (allows you to track visitors).

B. Simple SEO (allows you to add keywords for Google to every post).

C. Facebook App. (put your Facebook updates right on your blog).

Depending on how often you blog, you can greatly increase your ranking in search engines such as Google.com and Yahoo.com. There is a trick to creating the type of blog that will actually bring traffic to your website. You have to give! Consumers are online searching for answers to problems, so let’s offer them a solution. Try offering them some free advice that in some way pertains to your product or service, bringing them to your website and earning their trust as an expert in your field!

Blogging tips.

Always offer something whether it’s free advice, DIY type of article, or an educated opinion of a service or product.

A. Image is everything. Keep a clean professional looking blog using the best grammar and eye catching photos when possible.

B. Keywords! Try to use related keywords pertinent to your business as often as possible in your blog posts to drive targeted traffic to your website through searches.

C. Humor. You can keep your blog light yet still informative and professional. Keep your readers coming back by offering some personality and memorable posts that they may even want to share with others.

Businesses can no longer ignore the social media factor! Most people have a Facebook and Twitter account, but not many are using them to their advantage. You can send the first line of each of your blogs posts right to your Facebook and Twitter pages, attracting the attention of your fans. By combining the power of Google, Facebook, Twitter and a WordPress blog, you can increase your sales, create an online presence, and maybe even have a little fun!
The post WordPress, widgets and blogs!

The basic ideas behind web design are centered on the visual appeal of the site. Catchy graphics and high-tech animation effects are used to make visitors ooh and ahh. Many designers, especially those just starting out, forget there are people out there that do not have the latest, greatest hardware or software. All the effort to make a visually appealing site just serves to complicate the experience of some visitors. For some visitors to a site, the high tech visuals just get in the way. Interminable download delays for slow connections; error messages when user hardware or software is incompatible with special effects or blank spaces in place of images encourage visitors to leave and stay away. What good is a website with no visitors?

With the widespread adoption of Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) as the standard presentation controller for websites, the separation of presentation and content is nearly complete. Combining a scripting language such as Javascript to determine the visitor’s browser and hardware capabilities with separate and specific style sheets allows the developer to configure the presentation to match the visitor’s needs and capabilities. By detecting the characteristics of the visitor’s hardware and software, specific style sheets are enabled for the different setups. Certainly, this requires a bit of extra work by the developer but the user experience is much enhanced by the extra effort.

This practice allows more compressed (slightly less attractive) graphics for faster downloads on slow connections or eliminating graphics altogether for page readers used by visually impaired visitors. Separating the font selection, font size, colors and even layout from the content of a site makes the content more accessible to a wider range of visitors. It is even possible for the content of a site to be presented in a right-to-left text instead of left-to-right simply using Javascript and CSS to assign properties to the text.

Another major consideration is the use of hand-held devices for internet access. Smart phones have relatively small screens and some fancy graphics may not translate well to the small screens. Also a concern is the font size. A tiny font that looks OK on a 15 inch monitor may look like a solid line on a 2 ½ inch screen. As much as possible, developers should test their work on a variety of devices, browsers and screen readers. Most will be surprised at the problems that are revealed by this testing. The problems are easily corrected by adding specific style sheets and browser detection scripts to the sites.

The result of a properly tested and multi-platform optimized web site will be a larger group of loyal visitors. In many cases, testing and making a site accessible to more people takes more time and effort that the original design stages. Not all sites offer content or products for everyone and understanding the target audience is very important to the designer. If a site is simply a place for family members to share photos and vacation stories, the extra work is not justified. If a site can expect an international audience with accessibility-challenged members the extra work is justified.
The post Special Considerations for Web Design first appeared on Hotel Marketing Agency, Hotels & Resort Hospitality Marketing.

I watched the tiny reptiles scurry away from the feet of the hotel’s guests as they strolled by, unaware. “Do they ever get into the rooms?” I wondered aloud.

My husband Tom whimsically replied, “That’s where they sleep,” knowing I love to entertain myself with ridiculously improbable, cute images. I picture myself turning down the sheets to go to bed, and finding a long row of curly-tailed lizards, heads on two gigantic pillows, sleeping away. Their tails curl up and down as they dream of their normal lizard days.

Tom and I had just gotten to our hotel in the Bahamas, ready for three days of relaxing, beach time, and plenty of reptiles. As part of the preparation for this trip, I had invested in a digital camera, knowing I would see thousands of reptile species and take thousands of National Geographic-worthy photos as we would trudge through lush tropical jungles dripping sweat.

Well, it never happens as I dream it.

I knew that where we would be staying on Grand Bahama Island was a bit of a tourist trap (now a gross understatement). The two towns of Lucaya and Freeport hadn’t even really existed before the 1960s, when a Virginian named Wallace Groves came and developed it with casinos and ritzy hotels.

Our hotel had been built much before the glitzy hotels, but it had a fresh, cheery coat of paint. It was what I had hoped our hotel would look like. Also, to make me over-the-top excited, it was inhabited by the quirkiest, cutest wild lizards I had ever seen. Curly-tailed lizards peeked out from every corner in the place. By the end of our trip, I had memorized the location of each lizard’s “home”, and every time we would come back from an activity, I would make the rounds, checking to see if each one was out sunning in its own particular spot, spread out across the cement, doing what lizards do best.

The folks at the hotel began to know me through my absurd crouching, peeking, meandering, and incessant picture-taking. The final morning we were in the Bahamas, it rained. It was very overcast, but I tried to hold on to the idea that they might still come out, and that I could take, oh, just thirty or so more pictures of these crazy and wonderfully silly creatures.

“You won’t find any this morning,” a cab driver waiting at the hotel’s front entrance said. “It’s too cloudy.” At first I was surprised that he knew what I was looking for, but upon taking a step back out of myself, I realized that for the past three days I had been acting quite obsessively, repeatedly circling the courtyard, checking sewer grates, steps, plants, the grandstand. Once I spotted one, I would squat and slowly duck-walk over as close as I could get, hoping that the little guy wouldn’t freak and scoot away. I was the epitome of stealth. (Don’t look right at them, they’ll know… be sneaky!)

The curly-tails seemed so playful, active, and talkative (in lizard ways, of course.) They would do a series of tiny bobs at each other from across the walkways, then eat the ants that marched along the cracks in the pavement. OK, so it doesn’t sound that different from other lizards, but their tails! Their tails expressed so much! While basking, the lizards’ tails would seem normal, stretched out with the rest of their bodies, but when alert and ready to run, their tails would quickly curl up like a spring, forming a Fibonacci-esque spiral– the perfect curlicue.

“How can these even exist?” I squealed. (I say this when I see every reptile.) They seemed so incredibly foreign.

The curly-tailed lizards really found a place in my heart in the short time we were there. There were few other reptiles that I saw during our stay, and none seemed to have the charismatic charm of the curly-tails.

Now that I think of it, I must have seen the curly-tails in pet stores here and there. They just didn’t have the same joie de vivre, which is probably why they didn’t strike me in the same way the wild ones did. But just maybe, perhaps, when the lights go out and the store closes for the night, they tug out a pillow hidden behind their Repti Rapids waterfall, and collectively dream of wilder days back on that touristy island of Grand Bahama, their tails curling up and down as they sleep.
The post Curly Tail lizard experience! first appeared on Hotel Marketing Agency, Hotels & Resort Hospitality Marketing.

Carmine Gallo explores why Steve Jobs, co-founder and leader of Apple Computer, is considered such a legendary presenter in his book, The Presentation Secrets of Steve Jobs: How To Be Insanely Great In Front Of Any Audience (McGraw-Hill, 2010).

Best Steve Jobs Techniques

Gallo details the methods and techniques that Jobs uses for his presentations including:

Creating simple and short stories

Placing those stories on even simpler and shorter slides.

Making the message about the most important question on the minds of the consumer.

Effectively using graphics, demonstrations, and video clips.

Conducting thorough rehearsals sometimes taking months, days, and hours to refine using the voice, body language and eye contact.

Dressing appropriately to enhance the delivery.

YouTube Video Clips of Jobs

While Gallo explains all of the techniques used by Jobs in the book, he suggests that readers watch video clips of Jobs in action. There are over 35,000 clips of Jobs available on YouTube.

Watching the videos, one can quickly find all of the features that Gallo points to in his book. Some of the techniques are so simple that it makes one wonder how or why they work so well.

Planning and Designing Presentations

The author writes that Jobs is “closely involved” in all of the details of his presentations. Jobs is there for every presentation from writing descriptive headlines, to helping to create slides, to practicing. According to Gallo, Jobs even has a hand in the lighting for the stage.

According to Gallo, Jobs starts with pen and paper and uses storyboarding to build plots into his presentation,. Gallo writes that Jobs does “marketing theatre unlike any other.” What makes that even more amazing is that most presentation experts recommend 90 hours of creation time for a one hour presentation.

Presentation Play by Play

Gallo’s book makes for a great handbook or playbook for all of those professionals that have making regular presentations written into their job description. The book is packed with information that can help turn the most basic presentation into the ultimate experience using techniques that Steve Jobs has made famous over the years.

Read, Watch and Learn

Gallo employs using mixed media to get his message across to his readers. He mentions watching video clips a number of times. The video clips really do provide great insight and reinforcement of what the Gallo is trying to explain to readers.

This book is a really great and interesting read. It is really a high-concept fictional piece with high-impact messages. The secrets to great presentations presented in the book from one of the legendary presenters of recent history also makes for a fun read, especially for those who kind of grew into their profession watching and following Steve Jobs.
The post Secrets From One of the Greatest Presenters in Recent History first appeared on Hotel Marketing Agency, Hotels & Resort Hospitality Marketing.
